Happy to Help are providing reassuring support to hundreds of older people and people with disabilities in their own homes across Gateshead.

The community home help team, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, provides weekly or twice-weekly visits to look after the domestic tasks such as:-

  • Cleaning
  • Shopping
  • Prescription collection
  • Pension collection
  • Bill paying

Each customer chooses the tasks they’d like help with, leaving them in full control over their home care support package, with the freedom to change the tasks as and when they want to.

Shelter North East are continuing to provide a service to help those with a housing or benefits need.

Due to Covid-19 and government guidance, the Shelter office on Pilgrim Street is closed but we are still able to provide a telephone based service.

The type of issues we usually help with are in relation to homelessness, housing disrepair, rehousing, problems paying rent, court action and evictions, benefit checks, applications and appeals.
