US is a North East-based charity working across Tyne and Wear, Northumberland and North Durham. US helps young people aged 12 to 25, with or at risk of mental health issues, get involved in exercise and sport to improve their quality of life. Young people choose their activity and are encouraged to adopt exercise as a lifestyle activity beneficial to both their mental and physical health.
Our work is based on the premise that participating in sports and physical activities, can improve mental and physical health, mood and self-image, and develop confidence, social skills and successful personal goal setting.
In response to the needs and interests of individuals US offers FREE:
- One to one activities for young people
- Small group activities offering progression opportunities and/or an opportunity for a group of young people whose circumstances place them at risk of mental ill-health
- Support to take part in activities in the local community
Young people become involved with us either through self or parental referral or through a large network of referral agencies from health and care, education and training, justice and the community and voluntary sectors.
A diverse range of activities are delivered by coaches, tutors and trainers from our bank of outstanding, qualified providers. Previous activities have included:
Fitness Training, Yoga, Boxercise, Running, Archery, Cycling, Ice-skating, Horse-riding, Dance, Bowling, Football, Badminton, Self-defence, Gymnastics, Circus Skills, Zumba
