A leader working with a group of Guides

We're looking for someone who can make a regular committment to our one of our Guide units in Whickham and Sunniside. We have two units that would love some extra help. They currently meet weekly on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the evenings during term time. You wouldn't need to come along every week but we are hoping to find volunteers who would like to become a key part of the team.

Volunteers must be 18+ for this opportunity.

Guides take part in a wide range of exciting activities at their regular meetings, and at special events or holidays. You can enable girls to get involved in anything from adventure sports to performing arts, travel and taking part in community action projects.

You’ll volunteer alongside a friendly and committed team to:

  • support girls to plan activities
  • run weekly meetings with girls aged 10 to 14
  • plan and coordinate trips and events
  • carry out a range of basic administrative tasks

Guides is part of Girlguiding, the leading charity for girls and young women in the UK. Guiding happens thanks to our amazing volunteers – people like you who give their time flexibly to ensure that we are active all over the UK.

How will you benefit?

  • Complete the Girlguiding leadership qualification so the experience you gain is recognised by future employers.

We offer every volunteer support in their role and the opportunity to learn new skills through access to free specialised training and resources. We cover any expenses incurred in your role and you’ll also be able to access our great members’ scheme, which offers discounts on high street brands.

 

Skills needed

The most important things our volunteers need are energy, enthusiasm and a willingness to try new activities! The position would suit someone who would like to gain experience of volunteering with young people and develop their administrative and event-planning skills.

Useful skills and experience for the role would be:
A passion for helping girls and young women to reach their potential.
An ability to work well with people of all ages.
Strong organisational skills.
Good written and verbal communication skills.

Our Youth Leaders and Assistant Leaders must be female and aged over 18.

No formal qualifications or prior guiding experience are required to volunteer with us. We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds and abilities.
