This Small Charity Week (22–29 June 2026), Teams and Bensham Community Care is proud to be part of a national celebration of the vital role small charities play in communities across the UK.
This year’s campaign, Small charities. Big impact., shines a light on the difference small charities make every day, supporting people, strengthening communities and creating change where it matters most.
This year, we're not only celebrating Small Charity Week, we're also taking part in the Big Give Small Charity Week match funding campaign. From 12 noon on Monday 22nd June, until 5pm on Monday 29th June, every donation made to Teams and Bensham Community Care by the public through the Big Give website will be doubled thanks to support from our champion funder, Postcode Neighbouhood Trust!
This means every pound donated will have twice the impact for older people in Gateshead.
People like Tim, who found friendship, comfort and confidence by coming to our men's groups after struggling during lockdown to stay connected. Or Rita, who overcame anxiety and now has a full, active social life with the help of our lunch clubs.
Stories like Tim and Rita's reminds us why local community support matters and why every donation can make such a difference.
In Gateshead, small charities like ours play a crucial role in bringing older people together to stay connected. Teams and Bensham Community Care helps alleviate and prevent loneliness, isolation, and many other challenges that older people experience, helping to create connection, opportunity and support for those who need it most.
As part of Small Charity Week, Teams and Bensham Community Care will be celebrating at our lunch clubs and men's groups, where we serve a freshly cooked two course meal and provide a range of activities and transport from home and back again. During Small Charity Week, we will also be raising awareness of the impact of small charities like ours, and the communities they serve.
Small charities are where change really happens. They are rooted in their communities, responding quickly to local needs and providing support that fits real people and real places.
At a time when many communities are facing increasing pressure, their role has never been more important.
Michelle Chirnside, Project Manager at Teams and Bensham Community Care, said:
“We're delighted to be part of this year's Small Charity Week campaign. Small charities are at the heart of our communities. Every day we see the difference that local, trusted support makes to people’s lives. Small Charity Week is an opportunity to recognise that impact and make sure the voices of small charities, and the people and communities we support are heard.”
A spokesperson for Small Charity Week said:
“Small charities may be small in size, but they are BIG in impact. They are creating change in communities every day, often quietly and without recognition. Small Charity Week is a moment to celebrate that impact and to stand behind the organisations making it happen.”
Small Charity Week is a moment to recognise and back the work of small charities across the UK. Because when small charities thrive, communities thrive. And when communities thrive, society is stronger.
Help Us Make Double the Difference
You can help get involved during the week by donating to the Teams and Bensham Community Care charity via the Big Give website, where we are championed by Postcode Neighbourhood Trust.
Our generous champions will double every donation we receive too!
If we reach our fundraising target of £2,500, it will be doubled to £5,000 to continue our vital groups for older people in Gateshead.
Donations can be made anytime from noon on Monday 22nd June until 5pm on Monday 29th June 2026 on the Big Give website.
