Who Can Use the MakerPlace?

Ages 16+ can sign up for MakerPlace membership.

16–18 year olds must be accompanied by an adult.

Under 16s can use equipment only during library‑run workshops and activity sessions. We deliver regular events and workshops for all ages.

How to Get Started

You must be a Gateshead Libraries member (joining is free), however, MakerPlace membership requires photo ID to be added to your account.

To become a MakerPlace member, you will attend a Health & Safety Introduction Workshop for each type of equipment you want to use.

Current options include:

  • Introduction to 3D Printing
  • Introduction to Laser Cutting
  • Introduction to Digital Cutting with Cricut
  • Introduction to Heat Transfer

For induction details on other equipment (e.g. digital sewing machines), please contact us.

Booking Equipment

Once inducted, (by attending the relevant 'Introduction to' workshop) you can book eligible equipment via the Gateshead Libraries MakerPlace Eventbrite page.

Please only book equipment after completing the relevant induction, oherwise your booking will be cancelled.

Coding and STEM workshops and activities

We offer a range of coding and STEM themed activities and workshops for a range of ages from early years, families and adults. To find out what's available please visit our What's On page.  

We also deliver sessions to students and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) sessions for teachers. CPD workshops help improve delivery of engaging cross-curricular computer programming lessons.
