Support Nature by Gardening in Saltwell Park!
Help us with light gardening, weeding, pruning, inspecting the trees, planting in our
pollinator bed, keeping paths neat – whatever is needed according to the season.
Known as the Apple Bee Community Orchard, our orchard was planted three years ago
and contains around 80 young fruit trees, mostly different varieties of apple but also
pear, plum, crab apple, greengage and cherry. It was planted for the community to
enjoy, to provide fruit for local people and to create a healthy, relaxing environment for
current and future generations. The orchard is already part of the nature syllabus for
local primary school children who are regular visitors.

Skills needed
that session.
Any gardening experience you have is always useful and we enjoy
learning from each other and swapping ideas with our volunteers.
You don’t have to come every week - just turn up whenever you can make it.
Benefits for the Volunteer
Meet like-minded people, enjoy exercise in the fresh air, carry out basic gardening
activities and make a difference by helping to support nature and create a thriving,
sustainable green space for the community.
We are a friendly bunch, enjoy chatting while we work and partake in a biscuit or two when we’ve finished!
If you prefer to find out more about before considering joining us, please come and
meet us on a Wednesday morning and ask for Alice or Lee. If the weather is bad we
sometimes don’t meet so please call 07949 267 602 if you are in doubt.
