Newcastle Castle is a heritage site in the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne, the Castle that gave its name to the city. Consisting of two main buildings, the Castle Keep and the Black Gate, it welcomes over 30,000 visitors annually, including families, tourists and local visitors. Meet and Greet volunteers are the friendly face of the Castle, welcoming visitors, answering queries and directing people around the site. Duties of this role include: 

  • Be a visible presence outside the Black Gate and Castle Keep, welcoming visitors
  • Guide visitors around the site
  • Engage with passers-by to encourage people to visit Newcastle Castle
  • Answer questions from visitors and members of the public
  • Potentially dress in historical costume and engage with visitors and passers by and provide photo opportunities (optional)

Skills needed

• Outgoing and willing to speak in public
• Enthusiastic about sharing the history of Newcastle
• Friendly and approachable
