Conversational English Tutor & Volunteer Buddy

Description of what will be involved: 

Volunteers are needed to support Syrian Families who have recently been resettled into Gateshead.  Volunteers will be required to develop informal functional English within a community setting.

Volunteer Conversational English tutors and volunteer buddies are both needed.

In terms of volunteer tutors previous teaching experience would be very useful however is not essential.

Volunteers within this role will be supporting vulnerable people including people with learning disabilities and older people.  As a result a DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) Check is required which will be support through the Gateshead Housing Company.

The Tutor volunteer opportunities will be based at various community venues throughout Gateshead and will be demand led.

In terms of the buddy volunteer role , volunteers will need to support individuals with informal tasks such as travelling, attending new groups etc.

Syrian families after being resettled within Gateshead require some informal support to enable them to become familiar with the facilities around them including the best travel options, leisure facilities and other community facilities.
