About us:

Helping out, volunteering, doing pro-bono work - there are many ways that people help their local communities and Gateshead without being paid. You might help out in a charity shop, run a youth group, be a Countryside Ranger, help at a food bank, or volunteer in a museum (to list a few).

We are working out how people can be better supported in becoming and being a volunteer, and in getting benefit from voluntary activities and sharing it with others. We will also be designing and trying out new tools, resources, and activities for supporting volunteering. We are doing this through conversations with volunteers, volunteer coordinators, and community groups across Gateshead. The project is a collaboration between Newcastle University, the University of Northumbria, and Gateshead Council.

Take Part

During Gateshead Volunteers’ Month we are doing three things: working out which parts of volunteering most need improvement, gathering examples of what works well elsewhere, and working out what existing resources should be part of what we design. Contribute to these conversations by clicking on the links below or by meeting us at volunteer events across Gateshead (see our Upcoming events below). Please also sign-up for email updates below to keep up to date with project progress, news, and events.

Further information about this project is available in the Information for Participants document.
