Teams and Bensham Community Care Celebrates Grant from The National Lottery Community Fund
On July 9th and July 11th 2019, Teams and Bensham Community Care held two special open days to raise awareness of their work and to celebrate a grant award of £61,546 from the National Lottery Community Fund's Reaching Communities programme, made possible by National Lottery Players.
The funding will help to deliver the charity's popular Thursday men's group for a further two years, as well as reach more vulnerable older people so that they can access the range of preventative social activities that the Charity provides.
Teams and Bensham Community Care supports over 100 older people each year from central and inner west areas of Gateshead to help them to avoid or alleviate isolation and loneliness whilst creating strong social and support networks. They provide three lunch clubs, two men's groups and a variety of activities each week.
In addition to inviting NHS professionals and many public sector and third sector services to the centre's open days, the events also added to the summer long celebrations leading up to the 25th anniversary of the National Lottery. The charity has been able to deliver many wonderful activities over the years with funding support from the National Lottery Community Fund including a local memory book project, creation of a music video and the development of our men's group. Commenting on the latest and largest award the charity have received, Michelle Scott (Trustee) said:-
"We are thrilled to have received this support thanks to National Lottery players, especially during a very special year for the National Lottery. We are excited to share the success of our two year project and to continue to benefit the lives of more older people in our community."
