The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service

The Lord-Lieutenant is involved in promoting The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service, established in 2002, it is the highest award given to volunteer groups across the UK and is equivalent to an MBE.

Any group of 2 or more people doing voluntary work can be nominated for the award, however the majority of the group must be volunteers, and more than half the volunteers must have the right to live in the UK.  The group should provide a service and meet a need for people living in the local community and run locally.  Groups should have been running for 3 years or more.

Winners receive a certificate signed by The Queen and a domed glass crystal, representatives of the group may also receive an invitation to attend a royal garden party at Buckingham Palace.

Nominations (comprising of an application form along with two letters of support) are submitted online at www.gov.uk/queens-award-for-voluntary-service The deadline for nominations to be considered in 2019 is midnight Friday 14th September 2018.
