The Gibside Art Group has been established since August 1965 when it started with only 7 members.  The membership has since grown to around 40 members who are drawn from a wide area, mostly within Tyne and Wear. Most members are retired but adults of all ages are welcome to join. The group meets every Wednesday night in the Rowlands Gill Community Centre.

The group is primarily an amateur group run by its members. Their artisic experience varies a lot - ranging from people just starting out to others who are much more experienced and regularly able to sell their work.  Our members work includes drawings and paintings in pencil, pen, oils, watercolours, acrylics, pastels, mixed media and digital media in a wide mixture of styles and subject matter.

We hold our main art exhibition on the first full Saturday and Sunday in October every year at the Community Centre, Strathmore Road, Rowlands Gill, near to the Metro Centre and Gibside estate.  As well as our annual exhibition, we occasionally hold other exhibitions throughout the year and in other venues.

As we are all learning enthusiasts, there's also a full programme of painting activities throughout the year, with several professional demonstrations and workshops providing opportunities to learn from experts, as well as some organised outings in the warmer weather to enjoy the plein air painting experience.

We have our own website which provides a platform for our artists pictures and information about our group together with advice as to how people can buy the pictures they like.  Commissions for special subjects are also welcomed by several of the artists.
