The Hertfordshire House Community Centre has been at the heart of the Pelaw area community since well before April 28, 1984, when the centre as it now stands was first opened. On October 29, 2018, the community centre transferred names from Hertfordshire House Community Association of which it was referred to for over sixty years to become Hertfordshire House Community Centre and Gardens CIO. The community centre and gardens are managed by a board of trustees.

The community centre is a fully accessible building situated on Rothbury Avenue, Pelaw, within walking distance of Pelaw Metro Station, Heworth Interchange and the local 27 bus service.

The building includes an informal seating area in our reception room, a cafe area with tables and chairs, an adjacent fully fitted kitchen with large serving hatch, oven, microwave, kettle, toaster and dishwasher, a main hall with a bright and airy space accommodating of indoor activities and parties, a conference room, a small office, a discovery garden for outdoor exploration, and a community garden where we grow fruit, vegetables and flowers.

We have a number of regular activities taking place at Hertfordshire House ranging from the arts to health and fitness.

We also have regular meet ups at community gardening (Sundays, Tuesdays & Thursdays starting at 10:00 a.m.).

The community centre is available for groups and private hire.

We are continually looking for new activities and interests to take place here at the centre, and are currently recruiting new committee members.

If you are either looking for a venue to accommodate your enterprise or you have any ideas, skills and experiences that you can offer the centre please contact us via e-mail, Facebook, or phone. hertfordshirehouse@hotmail.co.uk www.facebook.com/hertfordshirehouse ‭+44 (0) 191 469 1860‬
