Shoe Box Appeal

shoe box appeal

Volunteers in Gateshead held a Christmas shoe box appeal on the 16th December 2011. A group of people with learning disabilities, along with support, collected toiletries for people leaving care in the area.

Shoe Zone kindly donated 40 shoe boxes to the organization while the staff and the volunteers collected toothpaste, shower gel shampoo and other toiletries for the project.  The volunteers wrapped and decorated each box then filled each shoe box with the essentials we take for granted.
The Gateshead Supported Volunteers Programme at GVOC, which is funded by the Big Lottery, gives opportunities to people with a learning disability to participate in volunteering activities with the help of a buddy.

The support that buddies can offer includes helping people use public transport and staying with them whilst they volunteer to help them learn skills and integrate with staff.
