FREE DIGITAL TRAINING
Digital training sessions are currently being delivered in the west area of the borough to residents in sheltered schemes. The sessions are part of a programme to help older residents learn basic skills on how to use a tablet, access the internet, social media and services via The Gateshead Housing Company website. The Gateshead Housing Company is working with an organisation called ‘Digital Voice for Communities’ who are facilitating the training which consists of six two hour sessions.
Two schemes ‘Conifer Close and Crocus Close’ have already benefited from the training and residents who attended provided very positive feedback stating they found it very enjoyable, informative and helpful. Attendees also felt the trainers explained everything clearly and it was easy to understand.
The Gateshead Housing Company hopes digital training will address the risk of social isolation and improve digital skills among older people by helping them to keep in touch with friends and family and providing them with the ability to access services online.
