Chase Park is much loved by the Whickham community, and its stone walls, mature tree coverage, attractive gardens and old windmill help to contribute to the character of Whickham. Following a successful 1st Round bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund, the 2nd Round bid is now forging ahead and it is planned to be submitted in February 2015. The park has a range of recreational facilities however many are in need of refurbishment resulting in some Whickham residents traveling to other parks. There is potential to improve the park, expanding and enhancing the existing recreational facilities in the park which will attract even more families and more park visitors. The full range of proposals can be seen on the Chase Park draft master plan. Briefly these include repair works to the listed windmill and to the stone boundary walls, resurfacing of footpaths, refurbishment of the play area to include sand and water play, more teenage equipment and trim trail type equipment, introducing new park signing, renewing seats and bins, enhancing the park entrances, restoring the sunken garden, and new tree and shrub planting.
