RUN, RIDE OR RAMBLE for Diabetes UK

  RUN, RIDE OR RAMBLE

DERWENT WALK COUNTRY PARK, GATESHEAD

The Route

The four mile circuit can either be walked, ran or cycled.  It is completely wheels friendly and dogs are permitted in the parkland but are asked to be kept on leads.  The route will take us through mixed woodlands and meadows alongside the River Derwent.  Why not make it a great day out and pack a picnic!

What will I need to bring with me?

The walk is on country paths so we recommend that sturdy pair of walking boots or supportive flat sturdy shoes are worn to minimise the risk of strains and sprains.   Remember to take adequate fluids with you, especially if it is warm, and any snacks or drinks you may need if you have diabetes.   Be prepared for all weathers.

How do I get there?

The route starts and finishes at Swalwell Visitor Centre (Swalwell, Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, NE16 3BN; 0191 414 2106/ 01207 545212)

By car Access to the Derwent Walk Country Park is available from several car parks, the nearest being at Swalwell Visitor Centre and the Thornley Woodlands Centre. From the A1 - take either of the two turn-offs north of the Gateshead MetroCentre, the first for Swalwell, or the second for Blaydon.  The Swalwell Visitor Centre is directly next to Blaydon Rugby Football Club.  There are a number of car parks surrounding the park.

By bus Go North East operate a number of services in the area.  For further detailed information visit www.simplygo.com or call Customer Services on 0845 606 0260.
