Gateshead Supported Volunteers Programme (GSVP)

Gateshead Supported Volunteers Programme (GSVP) supports people with a learning disability to complete a Level 1 NVQ called the Gateshead Volunteers Award. It will help people to volunteer. As part of the qualification you do a 1 day volunteering activity with staff to practice volunteering.
Once you have done the qualification you choose somewhere you would like to volunteer, this could be gardening, sport, cafes, charity shops and many more!
We then match you up with your buddy who is there to support you to volunteer. This could be with your travel, or to help you with the tasks you have to do when you are volunteering. You can decide when you feel you no longer need the buddy to support you, and you can carry on volunteering by yourself.
Our project is always recruiting buddies to support people with a learning disability. Buddies need to be 18+ and will need to do a Criminal Records Bureau check and provide 2 references. You can apply for an application pack by contacting Rebecca at VolunteerInGateshead@googlemail.com
